Holiday Lake Forestry Camp Fact Sheet

Who Can Attend?
Applicants must be between 13-16 years of age. Applicants should have an interest in forestry or related activities, a potential for contributing to and benefiting from the camp and a good academic standing. Scholarships to attend the camp are awarded to students.

What does the camp have to offer?
Forestry classes are taught by professional foresters and wildlife biologists. Classes include--Timber Harvesting and Wood Technology, Forest Management, Environmental Protection, Wildlife Management, Tree Identification and Improvement, etc.

Who sponsors the camp?
The camp is administered by the Virginia Department of Forestry and is sponsored by state agencies, local businesses and interested individuals.

When is the camp?
The five day camp is held in June each year.

Where is the camp?
The camp is held at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, Virginia.

How do I apply?
If you are interested in attending Holiday Lake Forestry Camp, you should have a teacher nominate you by completing the "Nomination for Scholarship" form and submitting it to the address listed by the deadline. Youth Conservation Camp Facts

Who Can Attend?
Applicants must be in grades 9-12 and must not have already graduated from high school. Only two students from Fauquier County will be selected to attend.

What does the camp have to offer?
The following topics are discussed at the camp--Soils, Water Quality, Forestry, Wildlife, Environmental Study, Shoreline Protection, Chesapeake Bay, Erosion & Sediment Control and Marine Biology.

The camp is co-sponsored by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Soil and Water Conservation.
