Holiday Open House - The Bealeton Library is hosting an open house after the Bealeton community Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 12. The parade starts around noon, and afterward everyone is invited to stop by the Bealeton Library to enjoy refreshments and an award ceremony. Children and their families are also invited to participate in a post-parade Christmas craft program. (Call (540)439-9301 for more details on the parade.)

Wii for Seniors - Seniors are invited to the library to learn how to play games on our new Wii gaming system. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help participants learn how to bowl or play tennis on a virtual playing field. Wii is a great way to exercise and stay fit.

Book Clubs

Book ‘N Stitchers - Stitchers are invited to bring their knitting and crochet projects, share tips, tricks and ideas and to discuss books. All ages are invited and novice stitchers are welcome.

English as a Second Language Classes - English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults are presented at the library by Literacy Volunteers of Fauquier County. Call (540) 349-8142 for more information and to reserve space.

Internet Classes for Adults - Classes introduce and expand Web and computer skills. Reserve a space by calling the library and be sure to arrive on time. Classes will cover the following topics and are repeated monthly:

Internet Basics –Learn basic Internet terminology and the fundamentals of navigating the World Wide Web using the Internet Explorer browser. This class, aimed at beginners, includes lots of practice with the mouse. View/print class handout.

Introduction to Web-based E-Mail – Learn how to create and access a free e-mail account from any computer. Students should be familiar with computers and the Internet. View/print class handout and homework assignment.

Search & Explore the Internet – Students will use popular search engines, Internet directories and the Library’s own Web site to find information. Students should be familiar with computers and the Internet. View/print class handout.

Tips & Tricks – Students will learn how to optimize Internet Explorer in order to effectively use the Internet as well as learn specific shortcuts for common computer tasks. Students should be comfortable using the computer and the Internet and are encouraged to come to the class with questions. View/print class handout.

SCRABBLE - Join others at the library for games. SCRABBLE can be found in one of every three American homes and the National SCRABBLE Association (N.S.A.)  sanctions more than 175 Scrabble tournaments and more than 200 clubs in the U.S. and Canada every year. Learn more about SCRABBLE.

Socrates Café - When was the last time you could discuss your thoughts openly and honestly with others? Have you ever questioned society and its assumptions, or your own? Would you like to have a good, safe discussion without fear of being attacked for having an opinion that is different? Join the discussion at Socrates Café.

  • Warrenton Library: 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Planned discussion topics for 2009-2010 include:
