Library cards are free for county residents and for residents in areas that have borrowing agreements with Fauquier County Public Library (FCPL). You can apply in person at your local library or apply for a library card online.
A FCPL card allows you to:
- Check out books, DVDs, CDs and other library materials
- Check your library account online from home or office
- Place holds on items and request delivery to a branch of your choice
- Search online databases from your home, office or school
- Use library computers

| You live in Fauquier County or in a county with a reciprocal agreement with Fauquier County. | None | 2 years | Must verify name and address. |
| You are enrolled in public or private school or college in Fauquier County. | None | 2 years | Must verify name and address. |
| You are employed in Fauquier County. | None | 2 years | Must verify name, address and employment. |
| You own property in Fauquier County. | None | 2 years | Must verify name, address, and ownership of property. |
| You do not meet any of the conditions noted above, but are willing to pay the annual fee. | $15.00 annually | 1 year | Must verify name and address. |
Acceptable documents to verify name:
- Checkbook
- Driver's license
- Military I.D.
- School I.D.
Acceptable documents to verify address:
- Cancelled mail
- Car registration
- Checkbook
- Contract for home
- Driver's license
Acceptable documents to verify employment:
- Corporate badge or I.D. with address
- Paycheck stub
Acceptable documents to verify property ownership:
- Assessment notice
- Tax bill or receipt
