Community Park is Now Open! Shelters at the park are available
to reserve now for your family or company picnic. They provide
a fantastic setting for your child’s next birthday or sports team
party. The park has 2 miles of paved trails for walking and biking,
as well as 3 playgrounds for our smallest patrons. Children 12
and under may perfect their casting technique at our children’s
fishing lake. There is plenty of open space for tossing a Frisbee
or football, or laying out a blanket to enjoy the fresh air. Additional
improvements to the park are being considered, which may begin
as early as autumn 2009. Make it a point to visit your new park
soon!
Marshall Community Pottery Studio – With the postponement
of the Computer Clubhouse, the department is making plans to continue
with the plan to re-establish the pottery studio at Marshall Community
Center. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the studio could be
operational by autumn 2009.
Schoolhouse #18 – The grounds of this historical facility
are now open to the public on a daily basis with plans in the works
to open the school for tours on a monthly basis and by reservation.
Marshall Community Center Auditorium Improvements – The
Marshall Community Center Advisory Committee has been engaged in
a fundraising program to complete the seating in the auditorium.
Now that adequate funds have been raised the project has been bid
and an award is pending.
Trail from Northern Fauquier Community Park to Coleman/Marshall – The
department has been working with the School Board to design a trail
that will connect Marshall Middle School and Coleman Elementary School
to the Northern Fauquier Community Park. The plan is nearing completion
but funding is not yet available for construction.
Thompson site plan – A site plan for Thompson Elementary
has been developed and is undergoing final review through the Parks
and Recreation Board and School Board.
Youth Scholarships available: Parks and Recreation
offers scholarships for our programs with a maximum benefit of $50.
Scholarships are available for youth 14 years of age and under. For
